This piece is written with my Church in mind, as we call our volunteers 'carriers'; carrying the vision, carrying the church, and carrying 'revival' which just so happens to be our motto for this year as well. I wanted this to be one of my CCM songs more on the alternative side, although they're considered more worship than Contemporary, the pieces of Lindy and The Circuit Riders come to mind as they use such simple chords, but through the instrumentation and melodies create music that's so captivating and different. Through this piece I am trying to create what is called 'praise' music in the modern church (although the distinction between praise and worship music is beyond the practical definitions is somewhat taboo) that is music that can be danced to and used in celebration of God rather than worship to him. This music is upbeat, faster in tempo and from my perspective less structured in its presentation.

This piece I began with the lyrics, as stated previously, I find them the easiest and most captivating part of the piece to create, I then created a melody to go along with the lyrics (although in truth they come at the same time, as I write the lyrics I sing them out, but I don't always record it s I have a specific sound in mind and know my original thoughts are most likely not in the correct key) I then created a rough set of chord progressions and created a new melody, adapting the lyrics to suit. For this piece I explored a bunch of unique and different chord progressions at random and decided to use those ones. In an Youtube video hosted by PlanetshakersTV, the worship pastor of Planetshakers said that they have a quick turn over of music, often creating pieces within hours and performing them that week. I wanted to approach this piece with little thought or hesitation as I went into it.

As the music making process progressed and I came back to this piece a month or so later however I felt like I didn't really like the song the way it was. I ended up creating a new melody, one that would be easier for congregational participation and one that would make the piece feel less wordy as it needs to be somewhat easy to pick up for the general audience as well as making the piece somewhat more upbeat because that seemed to match the mood of the piece more so. One thing my vocalist did say in rehearsal was that she felt the piece still had a lot of words, I certainly acknowledge this, but as stated earlier I believe the lyrics are the most important part and everything else should adapt to that, sometimes even the band itself. When we look at songs like King of Kings and Beneath the waters  They are both both considered very text heavy, but it is because of that and the message that they are trying to portray that has established them as strong standing staples in the modern church.
